Making Business Run Better !

Now that is a statement.
But it’s what I do. My niche if you will.
How?
By looking at the business as a whole from many different perspectives. Understanding that change impacts more than one area and that information comes from more than one place.
At heart I am an operations guy; systems, processes, relationships, infrastructure. A business owner with:
- A CFO level accounting background
- A legal background – Licensed in Colorado
- A CIO level technology background,
- A keen interest in helping others understand and grow their business.
Operations
I truly enjoy knowing how businesses run and how all the parts fit together. How the money flows, the paper moves, the product or service is delivered. How the various departments relate. How everything is connected under the covers. I have years of experience leading operations in commercial banks and other businesses, developing workflows, improving processes, introducing new technology, and integrating workflows across multiple departments continually striving for a more efficient, integrated entity.
Accounting
At the core of my understanding is the money and accounting for it. Every activity big or small impacts the financial statements. Doesn’t matter how many layers of technology or management are put on top. It all flows back to the financials. I understand the financials, how to use them and how to explain them. Management and staff all need to know and understand. My first job was in accounting and so was my last. Most of those in between involved leading the accounting function as well.
Communication
Just knowing isn’t enough. The information needs communicated. Different people need different information. Owners and managers need information synthesized so the big picture comes into focus and points to those areas needing more attention. Staff need to know less about the big picture and more about their specific areas of expertise. I can create and communicate this information to staff, manager, owner, board. I have held each role and worked with others in each role.
Relationships
One of the most important dynamics in an organization is relationships. Every organization has customers and most have people and departments that work together to a common goal. I focus on communication, customer service and mutual support. I encourage strong communication. A lot of good can come from meetings where problems are shared. One person or department may easily solve a problem plaguing another. Helping one another creates lasting bonds.
Customer Service
With many years of experience leading customer facing departments and organizations I am a strong proponent of customer service. Every person needs to understand who their customer is and treat them like it. For the front line it is easy. The customer is the person in front of you with a need. For the backroom the customer is generally another person or department within the organization. With a customer service attitude embedded throughout the organization will run smoother and more efficiently.
Ownership Perspective
I have owned several businesses and served as senior management in others. Been a board member and worked with board members. Hired staff, fired staff, met payroll. I have been in your shoes.
What does this mean for you?
Broad experience is brought to bear on your issue. An integrated viewpoint. An understanding of what you need to know to perform better and how to get that information. Results that consider the impact on the organization.
